WEISS TO STAY ON

Vladimir Weiss will stay on as Slovakia coach after signing a new four year deal. The new four-year deal will encompass the qualifying matches for the 2012 European Championships and the 2014 World Cup.

“It would be wrong not to continue to co-operate with Vladimír Weiss,” said SFZ vice-president Stanislav Strapek. “It's good news for Slovak football. I wish the coach good health, the right choices in forming the team, good colleagues and support from the fans.”

Weiss, who coached the Slovak team that made it to the second round of the recent Football World Cup in South Africa after a surprise win over Italy, believes that the team can reach even greater heights.

“I believe that we can accomplish something with the Slovak team as it is young and, after the World Cup, also experienced,” Weiss said, as quoted by TASR.

Weiss noted that he had turned down a number of offers from abroad, adding that they were from countries “that don't make me enthusiastic in football terms.”
