Milan Skriniar Keen On Achieving Champions League Qualification

Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar is keen on his side picking up three points when they entertain Juventus at San Siro. The Nerazzurri are currently just one point behind both Lazio and AS Roma in the pursuit of the Champions League places and the Slovakian has urged the need to keep their recent winning run going.

He told Inter TV: “There is a lot of will, we have to give everything we have from the start, I hope to be able to win together with the fans. There are a lot of people here and we believe in their support, we want a great result also for their sakes.” Meanwhile, when asked whether the club can prove an obstacle to Juventus winning the league, he added: “No, we only think about ourselves, about our objective of reaching the Champions League. This is our dream.”

Inter Milan started the campaign in a lively fashion under new boss Luciano Spalletti and they were at one stage tipped to compete for the Serie A crown. However, their form dwindled prior to the turn of the year and they have since dropped off to the point that they are vying for the final two places for next season’s Champions League.

A victory over the reigning champions would put them within reach of the top-four league spots with three games to play but anything other than this may witness their downfall. Inter are due to face Lazio in the final day of the Serie A season and many believe that the game may decide whether they can finish in the top-four places or not.

Meanwhile, Skriniar has been associated with a number of high-profile clubs including Barcelona of late, but the Slovakia international has stressed that he has no ambition of leaving the club even if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Marek Hamsik Not Giving Up On Serie A Title

Napoli captain Marek Hamsik is not giving up on the Serie A crown despite dropping behind Juventus for the first time in 12 matches. The Naples outfit have had a poor week which has included a thumping 4-2 defeat at the hands of AS Roma, and this was allowed by a goalless draw against Inter Milan on Sunday night.

As a result, the club find themselves one point behind the Bianconeri, who have a game in hand versus Atalanta BC. Speaking after the goalless draw versus Inter, Hamsik refused to give up on the Scudetto, and he remains optimistic that the equation will turn in their favour, he said: “We dropped to second place, but there are still 10 games until the end of the season. There are 30 points up for grabs and anything is possible. We had a good game and played better than them, but we couldn’t score. We missed a few chances and we couldn’t win.”

HAMSIK COULD HAVE BEEN AT JUVE

Former Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has said that Juventus had the opportunity to sign Napoli’s Slovakian star Marek Hamšík when he was at Brescia, but ultimately turned down the opportunity.

It has proved to be a costly affair for Juventus, as they have been struggling to replace the old guard. They have just returned to competing at the top of the Italian Serie A, but Cobolli Gigli reckons that Juventus could have won the title last season had they had a player like Marek Hamšík.

It has proved to be a costly affair for Juventus, as they have been struggling to replace the old guard. They have just returned to competing at the top of the Italian Serie A, but Cobolli Gigli reckons that Juventus could have won the title last season had they had a player like Marek Hamšík.

The Slovakian captain is recognised as one of the best players in Italy at the moment. He has been a huge part in helping Napoli qualify for the champions league last season, while they also did well in the actual competition as well.

Cobolli Gigli has revealed that Brescia offered Juventus the opportunity to sign Hamšík when he was an unknown property in world football. However, clubs like Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Barcelona have been trying to sign the player from Napoli. It is thought that the midfielder would command around £ 30 million in transfer value when clubs eventually come for him in the summer. Hamšík came extremely close to moving from Napoli in last summer, but ultimately decided to stay because of the champions league football on offer.

“We had dinner with Brescia president Gino Corioni after a league game. He informed me that they had a real jewel at their disposal in Hamsik, and added that he wanted him to play for us. However, fortunately for Napoli and their president Aurelio De Laurentiis, we waited too long,” Cobolli Gigli said to Il Mattino. Slovakian star Hamšík has so far scored eight goals in just 22 appearances for Napoli this season, while he has also 5 assists to his name.
