HAMSIK – THE TRUE NAPOLI LEGEND

Hamsik was one of the players Napoli signed after regaining promotion to the Seria A after spending some seasons in the lower league as a result of bankruptcy. He quickly became a fans favourite becoming the top scorer of the club for two consecutive seasons as Napoli sought to consolidate their stay in the league.

However, the 2010/2011 season would be the season when the Slovakian would shoot into the limelight alongside attacking duo Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi. Napoli finished in the Champions League places in the league with Hamsik contributing 11 goals and 6 assists in the League.

Playing at the tip of the midfield of Walter Mazzarri’sfavoured 3-4-3 formation Hamsik became one of the most feared midfielders in Europe. That Napoli squad was blessed with quick counter-attacking pace combining the brain of Hamsik, the Skill of Lavezzi and the scoring touch of Cavani.

He also played a pivotal role in the 2011/2012 season scoring in the final against bitter rivals Juventus as Napoli lifted its first title in 20 years. That summer saw the departure of Edinson Cavani and Lavezzi to PSG but Hamsik decided to remain with the club despite offers from Chelsea and Real Madrid.

This move endeared him to the club supporters as he remained in the quest to win the elusive League title for the club. Maurizio Sarri’s arrival at Napoli saw the player move deeper into central midfield and Hamsik adapted excellently in the new role. Tasked with connecting the ball from the midfield to the attack Hamsik became part of the famous Sarri-ball tactics that became famous in Italy.

“ Last season was his best season in terms of points tally as the Naples side finished “on 91 points but subsequently fell short of winning the Scudetto. It came as no surprise in February when the player cut short his stay for a lucrative move to“Chinese outfit Dalian Yifang“.

Napoli fans poured out the plaudits for their captain and star player as he closes his chapter with the club but it would be no surprise if he comes back in an administrative capacity in the nearest future.

Marek Hamsik Not Giving Up On Serie A Title

Napoli captain Marek Hamsik is not giving up on the Serie A crown despite dropping behind Juventus for the first time in 12 matches. The Naples outfit have had a poor week which has included a thumping 4-2 defeat at the hands of AS Roma, and this was allowed by a goalless draw against Inter Milan on Sunday night.

As a result, the club find themselves one point behind the Bianconeri, who have a game in hand versus Atalanta BC. Speaking after the goalless draw versus Inter, Hamsik refused to give up on the Scudetto, and he remains optimistic that the equation will turn in their favour, he said: “We dropped to second place, but there are still 10 games until the end of the season. There are 30 points up for grabs and anything is possible. We had a good game and played better than them, but we couldn’t score. We missed a few chances and we couldn’t win.”

Marek Hamsik praises Napoli’s ‘patience’ after Atalanta win

Napoli captain Marek Hamsik praised the patience shown by his Napoli teammates as they clinched a 1-0 victory over Atalanta on Sunday. The Naples outfit have not had a fond time with Atalanta in previous seasons, but they made sure of another three points which maintains their lead at the top of the standings.

Atalanta had done the double over Napoli during the previous campaign, and they continued to emerge as a bogey team for the league leaders this season after beating them 2-1 in the Coppa Italia quarter-final earlier in January. As a result, the Slovakia international was pleased to have got the win over the line versus Atalanta, and he is anticipating a similar commitment for the rest of the season, he told the club’s official website: “I had a fever a few days ago and only joined up with the team on Saturday.

“The most important thing was the victory. We beat Atalanta, a team that never stop and recently eliminated us from the Coppa Italia, without forgetting the two defeats from last season. We patiently met our objectives during the 90 minutes, and win that we wanted came. We’re top, but our objective is still far away. Now we’re focused on Bologna, and we can’t wait to play them.”
Both Napoli and Juventus have maintained their winning streak over the past six matches, and it appears that the Scudetto could be decided between them with the likes of Inter Milan, Lazio, and AS Roma dropping off. The Bianconeri picked up a close win over Napoli in the last meeting on the road, and the league leaders all have to do in the reverse fixture, having failed to attain a single point versus the Turin giants since 2010/11 Serie A season.

Meanwhile, Hamsik appears keen on staying put with Napoli for next couple of years at the least, and the 30-year-old looks on course to break the club’s all-time appearance record, having already eclipsed the goalscoring feat earlier this campaign.

This time around, Premier League giants like Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing the Slovakian international. Since Napoli are not doing too well in the Italian league, the 27-year-old may finally decide to leave.

This might be his last opportunity to secure a move to an even bigger club, but Hamsik has confirmed that he is not planning on leaving Napoli anytime soon. The midfielder has denied transfer rumours on several occasions in the past and he continues to do so.

Hamsik recently extended his contract with Napoli and he still has four years left on the deal. He says that he will be 31 by the time the current contract expires and this will be a great time to look at his future. Napoli are looking unlikely to finish in the top three this season.

Poor form just before the winter break has seen the club slip to fifth place in the Italian Serie A. This coupled with the fact that they will be playing Europa League football in the second half of the season may be enough to change Hamsik’s mind, but the player has revealed that he just intends to win trophies whether it is the league title or the Europa League.

“We’ve won three trophies in two years, something Napoli hadn’t managed for decades. When my current contract expires, I will be 31 years old. My head is here and not elsewhere. I think it would be wonderful to win the Scudetto with Napoli, but it’s also great to keep lifting other trophies here and we’re in the running for the Europa League. My immediate plans are to qualify for the Champions League,” said the Slovakian international.
